Lilith and Other Love Stories is a collection of short stories about the many faces of love. Marlene Prost writes about the joy of infatuation, the complexity of family bonds, the trauma of divorce, and the bittersweet perspective of old age. Her characters are young and old, single and married, male and female, gay and straight, Orthodox Jews and devout Catholics. Her style is often funny, at times poetic, and always compassionate. Here are some of those stories

Young Love …

In the title story, Lilith, an ascetic young scholar struggles with temptation in a story that recalls tales of the shtetl.

In Character Actor, a budding actress will do anything to get on Broadway, while a troubled college girl is desperate for attention in Group Therapy.

A teenage boy follows a stalker in Looking for Billy Crudup, and an Orthodox girl’s world is turned upside down by her professor in Noah’s Ark.

Family Ties …

An unhappy husband looks up an old friend in Reunion in Boston, and a widowed rabbi shocks everyone with his choice in The Singing Rabbi.

Divorce affects people differently. A pastor’s wife goes on TV for marital advice in The Passion of Jenna, and a young lawyer meets a ski instructor in Closure.

Looking Back …

When her husband dies, a woman who escaped to America in 1938 looks for answers in Survivors. An elderly woman in a nursing home has nothing to lose in Yizkor.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, she was a reporter and editor for daily newspapers and magazines. Today, she writes fiction in her home in suburban Philadelphia and is working on a novel about survivor’s guilt.
